Light

Roast

Light brown in color and having no oil on the surface of the bean, light roast beans are known for their light fruity smell. Cinnamon is an example of light roast coffee.

Medium

Roast

This the most popular roast in the US, medium roast coffees are medium brown in color and are sweeter than light roast. Medium roasts are balanced in flavor, aroma, and acidity.

Medium/Dark

Roast

Medium Dark roasts have a rich dark color and contain some oil on the surface of the bean. A coffee that has a medium dark roast will have a bitter after taste.

Dark

Roast

French and Italian are popular roasts in this category. A dark roast bean will be shiny black in color and will have an oily surface. Dark roast coffees are the most bitter.
